Cops

First off, you have to remember that cops have no duty to protect anyone. They are there to deter crime by their presence and to clean up the mess after a crime has been committed.

WASHINGTON, June 27 - The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.

What does this mean? It means that cops are not your friends. They have a job to do, which is to bring in money for the city in order for the city to have enough money to pay for the cops. It is a viscious circle. How do they bring in money? By writing tickets and arresting citizens. How? Well, there are over 10 THOUSAND laws on the books and by conservative estimates, everyone commites at least three crimes a day. And cops get people to tell them their crimes unwittingly.

See, people trust cops and know that they are the good guys. People are also stupid and have no clue about their rights. Cops bank on this stupidity, get people to talk to them, and people are surprised when they are ticketed or given a citation or even handcuffed. Now, not all cops, sure, but where are the news stories of good cops demanding reforms, demanding cities and officials get rid of the bad ones?

Remember, you have rights, but you have to invoke them. According to the courts, you cannot even remain silent anymore in order to preserve your right to remain silent. You must state that you are exercising your right to remain silent by remaining silent (and then shutting up)!

How to invoke them?

When a cop speaks to you, ask the officer: "Am I being detained?"
If the cop states that you are not being detained, as the officer: "Am I free to go?"
If the cop does not let you go freely, then the officer is detaining you illegally.
If you are being detained, then state: "If necessary, I will be available for questioning WITH a lawyer present."

Hell, just watch these videos on the subject.
